I'll give you some helpful information on dealing with with allergies from grass, tree and weed pollen, plus dermatitis caused by poison ivy and other plants and insects. Then I'll answer gardeners' questions regarding rabbits and deer have nibbling on roses. Also, what plants will thrive best in the South Carolina climate? Pest Tip: mosquito control and using Mosquito Dunks with the active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis var. israliensis.

Plant Health Care - Part 2

I’m going to address leaf miner damage, defoliators (caterpillars) that consume foliage, sawfly and many other destructive insects. I'll answer a gardener's question about diagnosing perennial problems. This week I focus on Plant Health Care. This is a method of managing plant problems in a proactive and more environmentally friendly manner. It starts with selecting the most pest resistant plant that is best suited to the growing conditions. This along with proper care can eliminate many problems. I continue with tips on proper diagnosis and assessment of a plant health. We start looking at a variety of management strategies that can help reduce the damage of problem insects and diseases.

Controlling Weeds

I focus on controlling weeds in the landscape, solutions for salt damage and moss growth. I answer gardeners' questions regarding red leaf coral bells that droop but are watered frequently and an iris that doesn’t have leaves on the plant. I discuss the annoyance of aphids and offer solutions to the problem. I conclude by suggesting a great product called “BurnOut II” that quickly destroy those bothersome weeds.
